July 7, 2025 | This website was birthed of a desire to create something delightfully anachronistic to the topic at hand. I'm having fun here, man. It's a good time.
I've been wanting to write more in depth about what I will just call "Slop" since February 2024, when the Sora AI video generator came out.
Then, this year brought about an undeniable leap in the kind of technology that actually does replace much of what I do and have spent the past several years learning how to do, visual effects and 3D. I knew that there was a good chance this was coming, and gambled anyway. I'm still gambling, because I would hate to live in a completely manufactured world. Creation will not be algorithmic in its entirety. Some human, somewhere, will make things. My hope rests on this dream.

gone, it's gone forever.

I'm exploring as I write - This site is written quite informally because my thoughts evade precise language. But I'll just say, one of the most surreal aspects is the sense of "Before" and "After". There will be a time "Before", as we are used to, and then the time "After", where all new works of art and media will inevitably be held up and judged in the context of AI. They will be in competition with it, forever and always.
I don't hate slop in itself. I find its existence amusing, and I hope you like my silly little website celebrating that absurdity. I'm "Slop-Neutral". There is nothing there to hate about it really, because it is nothing of substance to critique or to examine, positively or negatively. Only the profit motive and its eldritch machinations.
Essentially this is the question the greatest minds of our generation will be tasked with answering. Godspeed, and god help us all.
I hope you can understand the dull horror of being expected to "get ahead" in this new world. I'm scared to meet the guy who's "getting ahead". How do you "get ahead" under the paradigm of competition with robots who do not eat or sleep and are seemingly beyond moral condemnation? Is he of some species more powerful than robots and humans? Is he going to eat my skin? I'm still trying to figure all this out myself.
I still have that responsibility to myself to pursue this thing that I've wanted to pursue since forever, since there is absolutely still a shot for me, and I intend on taking it! :) Indomitable human spirit LFG
Still, I open my old projects to re-touch them, and I'm struck with how my work has that distinct "AI" quality. What looked right before feels uncanny. I find myself rethinking decisions to make it feel more "human". I live in the "After". There is no escape that I can see. Is this thing going to always be in the rear-view mirror? Oh God it's Right Behind Me Isn't It
I will discover the exact unnoticeable proportion of inedible byproduct before anyone else. In this world you either adapt to the times or get left behind
It's vulnerable to write about being replaced. "Good" artists aren't supposed to worry about it. I hope that I can read these words later on and have a good laugh. I really do! If you're laughing at my silly ramblings, I'm laughing with you in the future.
Right now, it feels bleak. But I just want you to know, you are a HUMAN BEING. WITH FLESH AND MEAT AND STUFF. YOU EXIST IN THE PHYSICAL WORLD. You can look at that bleakness and make something of it. Everything is computer. Everything is stupid. Always has been. But it's also waiting for you. There will never be a time when the world is "too dark" for your lightness. Make the thing only you can make at this exact point in time. I have a feeling there are many more "Afters" to come.
Farewell!
- Harrison.
